I bought a white plate today! Tomorow I will buy another!

I bought a plain white plate today.  I have written all over it on both sides with a black permanent marker.  What did I write?  All the things from 2007 and before that I am ready to be done with as of 2008!  Including, of course, 2007!  It includes specific people, groups of people, disease and a variety of conditions and emotions.

Tomorrow I will buy another one and I will write on it with pink permanent marker.  It will have specific people as well as groups of people, emotions and conditions.  It will be my affirmation plate for 2008 and I shall hang it in a prominent place in my home to remind me.

Tomorrow at midnight, the stroke of the new year, I shall venture into the street, hammer in hand, and smash the heck out of 2007 plate, sweep it up, tie it in a bag, and throw it in the dumpster.  I am ready to be done with everything on that plate.

2008 shall be a very good year!!!

Bust of luck in '08. Hope you warned your neighbors about the crazy person beating a plate with a hammer in the middle of the night.

Good Idea - letting go of the old is always a good thing to do.  In this case it really sounds like therapy.

Very creative. I need a very large plate...perhaps a platter! Good Luck...starting Tuesday!

I really like this idea, Gayle - the symbolism, the action, the senses of hearing and seeing the plate shatter. Sounds like a great way to get your mind and body in synch towards a great 2008!

Ha ha Gayle, I like your spunk.  Personally, I would get satisfaction running over the plate with my car :-)

There is a LOT to be said for little rituals like this. I had a waitress friend who claimed to be able to end bad luck with the sound of breaking glass. hmmm... I think she also claimed it worked to cure sciatica too. or maybe hiccups.

Happy New Year!

You go girl! Great idea... much better than putting it into a box and securing it with duct tape (my old method). May 2008 be your best ever, Gayle!

Very interesting and visual way to clear the way for the New Year.   I love this idea!

Have you ever heard of a a "burning bowl" ceremony? One year a group of my friends and I did this. You put in writing the past hurts, pains or situations you'd like to cleanse and remove from your life and then put it in the fire as a symbolic way of getting rid of it. It was fun and I think cathartic for many.

Your plate ceremony sounds good because it also involves a physical act of breaking something which releases different emotions too. My birthday is coming up, maybe I'll do it then!

I love this idea.  I have done something close to the burning bowl but I like the hammer part!  LOL  I love the new year because everything is fresh and we can start anew.

This is something new that I got the idea for right before New Year's.  I just felt as though I had to do something to erase the bad vibes from 2007.

Good for you! All I can say is...don't forget to wear safety goggles. It would be my luck to have a piece fly into my eye and wind up in the emergency room!!! Hey, it could happen! I broke my collarbone walking a dog!!!

Hope your 2008 is a WAAAAAAAAY better year!!!!
