Animal Abuse Registry

The state of Tennessee has a bill pending that would require all those convicted of ggravated animal abuse or bestiality to register with the state.  Penalties would be imposed for failing to register or update their file if they moved.

This will be almost identical to most state's sex registries.  The state will maintain a web site with pictures and other relevant data just like the sex registration sites.

This bill has passed in the state house but is hung up in the state senate.  This sounds as if it would be an excellent attempt to minimize animal abuse and make people aware before placing pets with individuals.  It would be great if all animal lovers would write the Tennessee legislatures to encourage them to pass this bill

Gayle, I hope that bill doesn't stall because that's a law that's needed. Too many times these abusers get away with what amounts to a slap on the wrist.

We are hoping this bill does pass.  Can't tolerate cruelty to children or animals.

Hi Gayle,  I think this is a great idea.  Many times people start with animal abuse and then move on to people.

This is a victory for animal rights advocates in this state, and across America. I applaud the legislators and the architects of this bill that will hopefully end the tragic inconsideration that victimizes our little friends. Our animal friends think, respond with great affection and loyalty, have emotional needs and depend on all of us. Our dogs and cats, especially, are very human in so many ways and the thoughtless acts that criminals perpetrate on these innocent and loving creatures, everywhere, makes them a threat to society.

I certainly hope it passes.  We let crimes against animals and children go underpunished and I'm sick of it.  Thanks Gayle!

AWESOME Gayle, I sit on the Maury County Animal Shelter Board of Directors and I just want to say this is awesome. I am working with the City Council here in Columbia, to try to push for tougher penalties for animal abusers. Our laws are strict, but I feel that they should all be felonies. There is no reason for anything less. Gayle, if you could keep me updated on any further information on this matter!! My email address is DJElectrician97@msn.com

Best Regards,

Don
